Turnbull & Son Ltd carried out a large-scale highway pollarding programme across:
Burton Joyce, Calverton, Gedling, Carlton, Hucknall, Papplewick and Mapperley.
Over 200 mature lime trees were pollarded as part of a structured highway tree maintenance cycle. The works were required due to canopy growth affecting:
• Highway visibility
• Junction sight lines
• Overhead utility lines
• Street lighting clearance
Most of the trees were Tilia × europaea, a species that responds extremely well to routine pollarding. Lime trees produce vigorous regrowth, making a 5-year maintenance cycle standard practice in highway environments.
All works were delivered using MEWPs and compliant traffic management systems, ensuring minimal disruption and full safety compliance.
Result
• Improved highway visibility
• Clearance from overhead lines
• Reduced future risk
• Sustainable long-term tree management
